A Weekend Farmers Market Brunch and Some New Finds

A Weekend Farmers Market Brunch and Some New Finds

Hey everyone, hope your week is off to a great start! I’m still buzzing from the weekend and had to pop on here to share a little about my Saturday morning. Ren and I finally made it back to the farmers market downtown after what feels like forever (okay, maybe just a few weeks, but still). It’s always one of my favorite ways to kick off a weekend, even if I end up spending way more than I planned. I love wandering through the stalls with a coffee in hand, chatting with vendors, and grabbing whatever looks fresh.

We got up early, well, early for a Saturday, which means like 8:30, and headed down to the market near the riverfront. The weather was perfect, sunny but with that crisp spring bite in the air that makes you glad you threw on a scarf. I had my reusable tote slung over my shoulder, feeling all eco-conscious, though I’ll admit I forgot it in the car halfway through and had to juggle a bunch of stuff in my arms. Classic me. Ren just laughed and ended up carrying most of it, because he’s the best.

The market was packed with the usual suspects: big piles of greens, early strawberries that looked too perfect to be real, and a ton of baked goods I had to force myself to walk past. I did snag a loaf of sourdough from that bakery stall I’ve mentioned before, the one with the blue awning, and it’s already half gone as I type this. We also picked up some eggs, a bundle of asparagus, and a jar of honey from a vendor I hadn’t seen before. She told us it’s made from the hives over in Stillwater Grove, which apparently has some of the best nectar fields around because of the lilypine blooms this time of year. I’d never heard of lilypine before, but the honey has this subtle, almost floral kick to it. Obsessed.

After we got home, I decided to whip up a quick brunch with our haul. I’m not exactly a chef, but I figured I could handle something simple. I toasted up some of that sourdough, scrambled the eggs with a little butter and salt, and roasted the asparagus with olive oil and a pinch of garlic powder. It came together in like 20 minutes, and with a drizzle of that honey on the toast, it felt downright fancy. Ren kept saying it was “restaurant quality,” which I’m pretty sure was just him being nice, but I’ll take the compliment. We ate out on the back patio, soaking up the sun, and it was one of those small moments that just felt right.

Later, we popped over to Lissa’s for a quick coffee catch-up. She’s been raving about this new cafe near her place in Westborough, but we ended up just hanging out at her apartment since she had some of those little almond cookies from Trader Joe’s that I can’t resist. We got to talking about the upcoming Spring Wreath Festival, which is apparently a huge deal around here. I hadn’t even realized it was already time to start planning our entry. I’m terrible with crafts, but it’s tradition to at least try making a wreath for the neighborhood display. Last year, mine fell apart before we even got it hung up, so the bar is low. Lissa’s already sketching out hers with dried flowers and twine. I could use some wreath-making tips if anyone out there has them.

Anyway, the rest of the weekend was pretty low-key. We binged a couple episodes of that new true crime show on Netflix. I’m hooked but also terrified to go to bed after watching it. I also finally repotted one of my sad-looking houseplants, though I’m 90% sure I overwatered it already. Fingers crossed it survives the week.

I’m always looking for easy brunch ideas since my kitchen skills are, uh, a work in progress. I’ll catch you later this week with whatever random thing pops into my head next. Probably something about the chaos of my desk at work, knowing me.
