A Tuesday Afternoon at the Library and Some New Book Obsessions
Hey everyone, I hope your week is off to a good start. Mine’s been a bit of a whirlwind with work deadlines piling up, but I managed to carve out a few hours yesterday for one of my favorite little escapes: a trip to the local library. I don’t know about you, but there’s just something so calming about wandering through the stacks, picking out books, and settling into one of those worn-out armchairs by the window. It’s like a mini-vacation for my brain.

I headed over to the downtown branch around noon, figuring I’d beat the after-school crowd. The place was pretty quiet, just a few folks at the computers and an older guy flipping through newspapers. I made a beeline for the new releases section because I’ve been dying to get my hands on the latest thriller by Tana French. No luck there, but I did snag a couple of other novels that looked promising. One’s a mystery set in a small coastal town called Harrowgate, which I’ve never heard of but sounds like it could be near Maine or something. The other is a historical fiction piece about a family during the Second Bloom War. I hadn’t planned on picking up anything heavy, but the cover caught my eye, and I figured I’d give it a shot.
After grabbing my books, I wandered over to the gardening section. Ren’s been on my case about figuring out how to save our backyard patch of silverthorn bushes before they completely wither away. I’m no green thumb, as you probably know from my endless plant drama posts, but I found a book on native shrubs that might have some answers. Fingers crossed I don’t kill them off before the first frost festival rolls around next month. Honestly, I’d just settle for keeping them alive long enough to look decent for a barbecue.

I ended up staying at the library for a couple of hours, tucked into a corner with my mystery novel and a thermos of coffee I’d brought from home. Starbucks was tempting on the way over, but I’m trying to cut back on spending this month. My little setup got me through the first three chapters before I realized I was starving. I didn’t want to deal with cooking when I got home, so I swung by Panera for a turkey sandwich and a cookie. Not the healthiest choice, but it hit the spot after a long morning of client emails and mood boards.
Speaking of work, I’ve got a big project due at the end of the week, so I probably won’t be back at the library until next Tuesday. Lissa texted me earlier to see if I wanted to join her for a quick dinner at that new taco place on 4th Street, but I had to pass. Deadlines don’t wait, sadly. I did promise her we’d catch up over the weekend, maybe hit up the farmers market if the weather holds. Ren’s been craving fresh tomatoes for some salsa experiment he’s got in mind, so that might be a good excuse to drag him along.

Before I wrap this up, I wanted to ask if any of you have book recommendations. I’m always looking for something new to add to my stack, especially since I’ve been tearing through stuff faster than usual lately. Drop your faves in the comments if you’ve got a minute. I’m open to pretty much anything, though I’m not huge on sci-fi. Too many weird rules to keep track of, you know?
Anyway, that’s all for now. I’ve got a pile of laundry staring me down and a dog that’s begging for a walk. Catch you all later this week with whatever chaos inevitably finds me.
