A Quick Bedroom Refresh With New Towels
I started the week wanting to do something small around the house. The bedroom had been feeling a little cluttered, mostly from towels and extra blankets piling up in the corner. Ren mentioned it on Sunday while we were folding laundry, so I decided to handle it on my lunch break yesterday.
First I drove over to the new store in Cedar Grove to look at some basics. They had a decent selection of plain white towels on sale, nothing fancy but thicker than what we already had. I picked up four bath towels and two hand towels, plus a small storage bin for the closet. The towels had that crisp new-fabric smell when I pulled them off the shelf, and the bin was a soft gray plastic that felt sturdy enough to stack things on top of. The drive took about twenty minutes each way, which felt longer because of construction on the main road—orange cones everywhere, a couple of workers waving traffic through one lane, and the radio cutting in and out with static every time I passed under the overpass.

Back at home I pulled everything out of the linen closet and sorted through what we actually use. Some of the older towels went straight into the donation bag. I kept the ones that still looked decent and folded the new ones on the middle shelf. The bin helped with the extra blankets, so now the door actually closes without anything falling out. Dust came up in little puffs when I moved the old stack, and I found a single mismatched washcloth I’d forgotten we even owned, the kind with a faded stripe along the edge that Ren always said looked like it belonged to a hotel.
While I was at it I switched the curtains in the bedroom. The old ones were the ones we got when we moved in, and they had started to fade along the edges. I hung up the lighter pair I found at the back of the closet instead. It makes the room feel a little brighter in the mornings without doing anything else. The new fabric was thinner, almost sheer in the sunlight, and when I pushed the window open a crack the breeze made them lift and settle again like they were breathing.

Work stayed steady this week. I had two client calls on Tuesday about a living room update, and both went smoother than expected. One of the projects involves sourcing new upholstery fabric, which reminded me I need to restock my sample books soon. I usually keep those in the car so I can grab them on the way to meetings. During the second call I could hear the neighbor’s dog barking through the open window, and I had to mute myself twice while I waited for it to stop.
Ren and I tried a new takeout spot on Wednesday night after I finished the closet project. Nothing special, just burgers and fries, but it was nice to not cook. We ate on the couch and watched an episode of a show we had been meaning to finish for weeks. The fries were still hot when we opened the bag, salt sticking to the paper, and Ren kept stealing the extra pickles off my burger like always.

This morning the laundry pile is already smaller than usual. I think keeping fewer towels out at once might help with that. The new bin also made room for the winter coats we had stuffed in there last month. Small changes like this add up faster than I expect. I should probably check the rest of the closets before summer really starts. There is always one more thing tucked away that needs sorting.
