A Midweek Trip for New Throw Pillows
I needed some new throw pillows for a living room refresh I’m working on, so I headed out on Tuesday afternoon to that big home store in Willow Bend. The traffic was light for once, which made the whole errand feel less like a chore. I parked near the entrance and went straight to the textiles section. They had a decent selection of neutral covers in linen blends that would work with the client’s existing sofa. The air inside felt a little cool against my arms after the warm parking lot, and the faint smell of new fabric and wood polish hung around the displays. I ran my hand over a few samples, noticing how the linen had that slight textured give without feeling rough, and one of them had a tiny loose thread at the corner that I tucked back in without thinking.

I grabbed three in different sizes and then wandered around a bit more to see if anything else caught my eye. The aisles were pretty empty, so I took my time looking at some lamps and side tables. Nothing stood out enough to buy, but it gave me ideas for later. One of the sales associates asked if I needed help finding anything, and I mentioned the pillows. She pointed me toward a sale rack I had missed, which saved me a few dollars on the larger ones. While we talked she mentioned they were getting new stock next week, so I made a mental note to check back if the client wanted anything else, and she even showed me a quick photo on her phone of what was coming in.
After checking out I stopped at the little cafe attached to the store for a quick lunch. I got a turkey sandwich with chips and a side salad. The chips were those kettle cooked ones that always seem fresher than the regular kind, with just enough salt that clung to my fingers. The sandwich bread was still warm from the press, and the side salad had a few stray croutons that added a nice crunch along with some shaved carrots that were a little sweeter than I expected. While I ate I checked my phone for any new emails from clients. Nothing urgent, which was a relief, though one notification reminded me about a fabric order that should arrive by Friday, and another one popped up about a rescheduled meeting I had almost forgotten.

On the way home I passed the setup for the River Days festival that starts this weekend. They were already putting up some of the booths along the main street, and I caught the sound of a hammer echoing off the storefronts plus the bright flash of a yellow banner being unrolled. A couple of workers were laughing as they tried to straighten a string of lights that kept sagging, and one of them waved when I slowed down at the light. It always brings a decent crowd, so I made a note to avoid that area if I have any more errands. Back at the house I showed Ren the pillows and we both agreed the fabric would hold up well. He helped me measure them against the old ones to make sure the sizes matched what I had planned, and we ended up laughing when one of the tags kept sticking to his sleeve while he tried to pull it off with one hand.

Later in the evening I sorted through some fabric swatches for another project and ended up making a simple dinner of pasta with whatever was in the fridge. I added some leftover roasted vegetables from the night before, which gave it a bit more flavor without extra work. The kitchen window was open and a light breeze kept moving the curtain while the water boiled, carrying in the faint sound of a neighbor’s dog barking down the block. The rest of the night was quiet. I watched an episode of a show I’ve been meaning to catch up on and then went to bed early. The pillows should work fine once I get them to the client’s house next week. I still need to find a couple of smaller accent pieces, but that can wait until the weekend.
