A Hectic Work Week and a Much-Needed Movie Night

A Hectic Work Week and a Much-Needed Movie Night

Hey everyone, it’s been one of those weeks where I feel like I’m running on fumes by Wednesday. I’m so glad to finally sit down and write this post—mostly because it means I’m curled up on the couch with a blanket and not staring at my work laptop. If you’ve been following along, you know my interior design projects have been piling up lately, and this week was no exception. I’ve been juggling three client mood boards, a contractor mix-up on a kitchen reno, and about a thousand emails. I love my job, but sometimes I swear I’m one misplaced fabric swatch away from a meltdown.

Monday started with a bang—literally. I spilled an entire mug of coffee on my desk while trying to join a Zoom call. Of course, it was with a new client, and I had to pretend everything was fine while frantically mopping up with a sock. (Yes, a sock. Don’t judge me; it was the closest thing.) The rest of the week wasn’t much better. I had a site visit in downtown Ashborough on Tuesday that got delayed because of a sudden road closure for the annual Lantern Mend parade. If you’re local, you know how seriously everyone takes it—half the city shuts down to watch people carry those glowing lanterns through the streets to “mend the dark.” I got stuck in traffic for an hour, but honestly, seeing the little flickers through my windshield kind of made up for it. Still, I was late, and my client was less than thrilled.

By Thursday, I was so drained I could barely keep my eyes open during a meeting. I ended up doodling little spiral patterns in my notebook just to stay awake. Ren noticed how wiped I was when I got home and basically ordered me to take Friday evening off. No work, no emails, no stressing about tile samples. Instead, we planned a movie night, which was exactly what I needed.

We’ve been meaning to watch something lighthearted for ages, so we settled on a rom-com on Netflix—The Holiday, because apparently neither of us had seen it in years. I popped some popcorn (and only burned a tiny bit, which is a win for me), and Ren grabbed a couple of beers from the fridge. We even dragged out the old quilt my grandmother made, the one with the weird little embroidered thistlepods all over it. She always said they were for luck, though I’ve never figured out why a spiky purple plant would be lucky. Anyway, it’s soft and smells like her old house, so it’s perfect for nights like this.

Halfway through the movie, I realized I hadn’t checked my phone in hours, which is basically a miracle. Ren and I ended up pausing the movie to chat about random stuff—work, weekend plans, whether we should finally try growing our own herbs again after last year’s disaster. (Spoiler: I’m terrible with plants. I even killed a succulent once.) We also laughed about how we both cry at the same cheesy scenes in movies. It was just… nice. No big revelations or life-changing moments, just us being us.

I’m trying to carry that relaxed vibe into the weekend, though I’ve already got a list of errands longer than my arm. I need to swing by Target for some basics, and I’m hoping to hit up the farmers market on Sunday if the weather holds. They’ve been selling those early spring vellaberries lately, and I’m obsessed with tossing them into yogurt. They’re tart and kind of fuzzy, like a cross between a raspberry and a kiwi, and I can’t get enough. If I snag some, I’ll probably post a photo or two on Instagram—fair warning.

Anyway, that’s my week in a nutshell. Chaotic, exhausting, but with a soft landing thanks to Ren and a good movie. How’s your week been? Any go-to flicks or cozy rituals you lean on when life gets nuts? Drop a comment—I’d love to hear. I’m off to bed now, probably way later than I should be, but hey, that’s me. Talk soon!
